Buchart Colbert: Works of Art Remastered
We have long known perfumery to be the ultimate in olfactory expression. Imagine a brand that takes the creative license of this ancient time-tested craft and sends it to new heights. Two names combine for one powerhouse niche brand: Buchart Colbert. And LUXSB is beyond thrilled to present this line and its larger-than-life fragrance interpretations to our members!
Buchart Colbert was founded by two Seans: Sean Colbert and Sean Cavenaugh. Buchart Colbert’s website further explains the essence of the brand’s unique appeal. “Our scents are musical memoirs, combining personal reflections with erudite explorations of artists and archetypes, where past and present converge to create a masterful playlist that transcends time.” Self-expression is a strong part of Buchart Colbert’s brand identity and one of the many compelling reasons that you need one of these niche scents in your fragrance rotation. Plus, the bottles are absolutely stunning with spell binding graphics and depictions as each musically inspired scent story unfolds.
We are delighted to place several of the brand’s offerings front and center on our ever-growing lineup: Knife Thrower, L’Hantise, Faisan d’or, and Lutin Errant. These four scents are equally as enticing as they sound. Also, they give everything that a daringly unique niche line needs to give in decisively modern fashion.
Knife Thrower is a fougere inspired by the classical composer Claude Debussy and his trip to the Paris World’s Fair in 1889. This was where he drew influence for the compositions and musical direction that would catapult him to heights in the Western world. A knife thrower grabs the attention of Debussy with skill and giftedness in precision. As does the execution of this show inspire a new interpretation of a classic scent profile. The fragrance captivates with notes of grapefruit, ginger, and melon for a refreshing combination. Musk and woods notes build the base notes that provide warmth and traditional sillage hallmark of the fougere family. At first whiff, the ginger projects well and provides a particular sweetness to this earthy composition. The result is a moody memorable masculine leaning scent.
L’Hantise translates to “The Haunting” in French. Hauntings are usually not very good experiences, but this ode to the discovery of scent is a very good one. From Chopin’s Etudes to deep feelings for fragrance, each of these flashbacks from Sean Colbert’s life inspire L’Hantise, a floral composition. Notes that comprise this niche complex fragrance include Brazilian rosewood, red currant, bergamot, lily of the valley, raspberry, herbal notes, amber, vetiver, and patchouli. The floral’s haunting quality is shown in L’Hanitse’s greenness and earthiness. It isn’t a quiet white floral. There is an intrigue about this feminine leaning scent that lingers like a flashback of a memory.
Faison d’or’s French to English translation is the Golden Pheasant. This hardy common bird is the subject of the Buchart Colbert creation. The inspiration for this scent is transformation and change that happens in Autumn and the natural world without false pretense. Notes that define the unisex scent include top notes of caramelized sugar, Valencia oranges, and smoke. Heart notes consist of suede, cedar, and spice. Base notes of pink pepper, amber, and woods round out the composition. A mélange of spices adds depth and warmth that cut through like the first cool breezes of Autumn. Faison d’or packs a powerful punch. It is definitely one of those cooler weather scents and a reminder of the honesty and technique of the niche house. Each note is discernable. All work well together.
Lutin Errant or Staying Sprite as a scent is a nod to Cecile Chaminade, a trailblazer in French classical music composition. She has been reimagined as the Water Sprite who leaves the predictable and safe murky depths for adventures out in the wooded forest. This unpredictable scent pays homage to the spirited and free wandering of a sprite and breaking free from traditions, Lutin Errant opens with notes of plum, white musk, and rum. The heart notes include mushroom, coconut, and sage. Cedar, amber, and woods as base notes provide am earthen basis for the scent. There is no wonder why this scent was selected as Best earthy fragrance at the Ask Men Grooming Awards. Mushrooms as a scent note make for a unique addition to Lutin Errant’s scent profile. It is as if the Wood Sprite herself decided to make an appearance in each spritz and appear as part of the forest’s crumpled woods and leaves under her feet.
